here are 20 old beats i found on my computer--some are from around 2005, some are a little newer...have at 'em there, rappers. lemme know if you use any of em.
As some of you might already know, I'm a college basketball freak! Today (Oct, 16th) marks the official start of practice for my beloved New Mexico State Aggies, and the rest of the college basketball world. Now since I'm living in Sooner/Big 12 country, a lot of you are probably going "New Mexico State? Who the hell cares about them? Have they ever even won a game?" Yes... Yes we have. Lots of them actually. New Mexico State, along with WAC rivals Nevada and Utah St., is rich in men's basketball tradition with 17 NCAA Tournament appearances including 5 Sweet Sixteens. We were a top 25 program in the 90's in wins and in 1970 (I know thats a long a time ago) we went to the final four only to lose to UCLA. No we don't get the national exposure that some of the BCS conferences get, but we have always been competitive and talented. And bigger schools have always been reluctant to make a trip to Las Cruces fearing mid major defeat. This season will be no different as the Aggies are loaded with talent heading into an exciting 2009/10 campaign.
Key Players: Jahmar Young is the reigning scoring champ in the conference and 2011 NBA draft prospect. Here's some footage of him at the Carmelo Anthony tournament this past summer.
Jahmar in his neighborhood in Baltimore:
Wendell McKines. I'll let the footage speak for itself.
and
Jonathon Gibson, Troy Gillenwater, Hernst LaRoache, and Gordo Castillo are all dangerous players as well. Look for the NMSU Aggies to make noise this season, and don't be surprised if you see them knock off some teams in March.
My WAC pre-season picks:
9. Hawaii- Just bad.
8. San Jose St- Just not very good.
7. Boise St- Good coach, good point guard, great football team.
6. Fresno St- Like every other year, a talented bunch of underachievers.
5. La Tech- Could finish ahead of Nevada. Great coach and two great players (Gibson and Rolle). Not much after that.
4. Nevada- Some folks won't appreciate my thoughts on this one. But Nevada, who has been the overall best team in the WAC the last several years, will be down. Returning leading scorer Luke Babbit and over-rated all-conference point guard Armon Johnson will lead this team to a disappointing season.
3. Idaho- This team scares me. A branch from Stew Morrill's coaching tree, Don Verlin and the Vandals are the truth. Scrappy players that include one the nation's best point guards Mac Hopson. This team will still be riding on the confidence gained from last years turnaround.
2. Utah St-It's tough for me to pick Utah St. to finish 2nd. Stew Morrill would be successful anywhere. Discipline players that buy into a great system of success. One of the best fan bases in the country. Wouldn't be surprised to see them win another conference title.
1. New Mexico St -I'm not picking the Aggies to win the conference based on personal bias. I didn't pick them to win the last two years. But this team has too much talent and confidence even with early season academic problems. I think this year, and next, will be huge for this team. Potential Cinderella in March.
POY-Jahmar Young All WAC- Mac Hopson, Magnum Rolle, Paul George, Jared Quayle. 2nd team- Jonathon Gibson, Kyle Gibson, Troy Gillenwater, Tai Wesley, Rodrick Flemings
It's hard to leave out Armon Johnson, Wendell McKines, Sylvester Seay, Adrian Oliver and Tyler Newbold but somebody has to be left out. I see Jonathon Gibson having a monster senior year.
If anyone has any issues with my words here, please comment. It's all in fun. The WAC should be a great conference this year. I look forward to watching on ESPN Full Court. -JM
Well it's been about 10 days since we released Dipsomaniac II with fresherthan.com and so far it's been a success. Big ups to McNastee and Astronautalis for the guest spots.
My favorite season has arrived. To celebrate I've mixed a bunch of songs that remind me of this great time of year to share with anyone who likes good songs. There are many genres on it, this is not a hip-hop mix tape, but I think you will enjoy it nonetheless. There are some unreleased songs, some rare cuts, and a preview from Runt's forthcoming album on Strapped For Cash Records--also titled "Autumn"...we will discuss that more soon...in the meantime, enjoy some choice tracks from my collection.

My favorite band Lucero just released their new music video today--which I believe was a fan contest similar to the one Death Cab For Cutie did several years ago with their Plans album...Enjoy it, its a little graphic, but I think Jim Henson would be proud.
"Dipso2 is the kind of record u put on giant 70s headphones with the tangled cord, sink in ur beanbag chair looking at blacklite posters, and vibe out" -McNastee
JUST 5 MORE DAYS UNTIL THE NEW ALBUM DROPS! MUCH LOVE TO ASTRONAUTALIS FOR BLESSING THE ALBUM AS WELL AS MCNASTEE FOR LENDING HIS WORDS AND MIXING IT DOWN FOR US. GET READY CHILDREN...THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD'N.

Sorry its been a couple weeks, Ive been pretty busy...but Im back and will be continuing the weekly artist showcase from here on out...if you have any suggestions or just wanna show me some dope ass art hit me up at strappedforcash@yahoo.com
Hailing from Tempe, AZ and representing Universatile Music and Furious Styles Crew (JS!) is the one and only Dumperfoo. Ive had the pleasure of seeing this awesome live artist paint a few times while on the road, never disappoints. Its always awesome to see someone paint live at a hip hop show, seeing the process and what all goes into it. Dude is legit.
Side note: I love this sort of trailer--you arent told anything about the story...big budget cinema should take a cue...Also the cinematography looks AMAZING.
Chuck Close is one of my favorite artists of all time. His realism is mind numbing and his pointilism is super awesome...He painted these self portraits over the last 20 years, I love the difference in style used over time.
Oh yeah did I mention that these paintings are MASSIVE? Most of his work covers walls, some of them needed scaffolding to reach the top while painting them...
And...another thing--he is quadrapalegic...since the late 80s he has painted everything with a paintbrush held by his teeth--Dude is unbelieveable. I wrote an essay about him when I was in 10th grade...I had no clue who he was at the time but my art instructor told me to check him out...Thanks Mr. Mays!
For more info on this incredible human check his website:
(it didnt seem like he had alot of art to look at on the site, I'd suggest google image search if you wanna see some more of his work--peep that Kate Moss portrait...Am I Right Guys?! ha see ya next time)

I first learned of Charles Burns when I was in high school. His classic cult comic Black Hole, which made little to no sense plot wise, found its way to me...and I immediately fell in love with his style. The rich contrasts he creates are as jolting as the images themselves--often times depicting classic monster movie scenarios. Now residing in Philidelphia, Burns has created some of the most interesting (and disturbing) comic books ive ever seen in my life. Want more?

My Momma and I were just talking about classic kicks from the 90s (yeah, seriously)...and she reminded me about my 5th grade year, I really wanted a new pair of shoes but I was doing really badly in school. They didnt have much money back then, but she made a deal that if I brought my grades (and attitude) up I could pick out a pair of shoes...now I dont know if it was the commercials (remember KJ dressed up like an old lady dunking in a living room?!) or the colorway or what...but i HAD to have these shoes.
1994 Kevin Johnson Black/Purple Con's REACT Pandemonium:
And when I finally got them--man was I proud. That was the last pair of shoes my parents ever bought me, that summer I got a job mowing lawns and went with the Shaq instapumps that fall for 6th grade. Hah, looking back I was pretty intense with my shoe purchases...thank god I found skateboarding in 7th grade.

ps I will be featuring a different artist every sunday afternoon, so check back each week to peep some great art. Have a good week!
In the winter of '06 I recorded a series of instrumentals while Chuy was back in New Mexico for the holidays. I had strep throat, my sister was almost killed in a car wreck, I barely left the house, and I was drinking very heavily. I remained sober for 7 days to record this previously unreleased (and pretty much forgotten) album. I wanted to release this after all this time because of a suprise that I can not tell you about yet...just know something is coming soon, and this had to be released first.
Track Listing: 01 - Like Wind Against A Tin Roof 02 - His Descent Into The Greater Unknown 03 - The Greatest Song I Ever Wrote 04 - Adventures Of Captain Awesome and Strawberry Shortcake 05 - Dead Weight 06 - Hollywood Theus 07 - Fin
Steeped in the titular color imagery of the deep South, the Builders and Butchers stake out a new less-tread niche in the indie-rock arena. This time they took on an epic cinematic approach to their single, “Golden and Green,” utilizing bold narrative sequences and period costuming that bespeak of dust-covered wagons and bowlegged men borne from out of a saddle. They’ve even resurrected the Vivian Girls! All in good taste of course, and quite aligned to the strong Southern aesthetic of their latest offering, Salvation is Deep Dark Well. Check out their video; you’ll be impressed by their new interpretation of the Old West. >OnQ1
Continuing his REDUX video series which presents cover versions of classic hip-hop songs performed live and in one take, Lushlife again demonstrates a seamless melding of b-boy braggadocio and classically trained flourish, with a genuinely reverent reading of Jay-Z’s classic, “Dead Presidents” It take balls to spit lines like "Bout to start bitchin' ain't you / Ready to start snitchin' ain't you / I forgive your weak ass hustlin' just ain't you" in a church (backed by nothing but a grand piano, no less) but there is something genuinely reverent about Lushlife's reading of Jay-Z's classic "Dead Presidents" in a Philadelphia sanctuary.
Much thanks to our friends at oklahomarock.com for doing a feature on us published today. You can check it out HERE or in the Blog section of our myspace.
Dfest Friday and Saturday This week, Puzzle People will be representing with performances by ourselves, Jabee and DJ Jafar. Dont Miss THIS!!!
Every now and then you stumble across something very special. Sometimes that discovery is so special that you find yourself suddenly responsible for sharing it with everyone else. Today that moment was sparked by Mr. Jason Medeiros, more commonly known as Mr. J of The Procussions, with the music video from his new single “Hold On”
Im pretty sure anyone coming thru this page has heard this song...I think it was in some videogame... This was the first "hip-hop" cd that really caught my ear (outside of wu-tang and bizzy bone)...I was hanging out with some skaters in OKC when i was like 17, just getting into trouble and causing problems for myself...but then Steve popped this cd in when he drove us back to Lawton...I was arrested later that night. Weird day man...weird day.
A few years back, rumors started surfacing that one of Dilla’s infamous beat CDs had made its way into the hands of none other than Jay-Z. If the Jiggaman HAD used any of Dilla’s beats, what would they have sounded like? Well, here’s a chance to hear what might have been. Using some of Dilla’s best beats, and the vocals from the groundbreaking and critically acclaimed “Blueprint” album, DJ Jimmy Green has re-arranged the Blueprint into a glimpse of what might have been if these two musical legends had collaborated.
This is not intended to be a substitute for Dilla’s work, or The Blueprint album – there’s no profit involved and it won’t affect sales of either artist.
Flannel is the title of the full length album that the 8bit Cynics will release in 2009. Flannel is not just a Hip Hop album, it's the story/soundtrack of a man's journey through the Southwest and his struggles to find balance between right and wrong, love and lust, and good and evil in America.
Artist Information
Biography
8bit Cynics is an eccentric indie Hip Hop duo with roots deeply planted in the southwest. They came together in early 2005 when producer saevio.is.dead (Will Watkins; Lawton, Oklahoma) met up with emcee Chuy(Jesse McDermott; Las Cruces, New Mexico). This talented duo has continued to put out quality material with a "do it yourself" attitude on booking tours and record sales. With a unique live show of socially conscience, introspective rhymes and live instrumentation, the 8bit Cynics have established themselves as one of the best up-and-coming Hip Hop acts in the Southwest.
They have had the privilege of sharing the stage with many other influential acts such as MarsILL, Blu, DJ Element, Mac Lethal, Astronautalis, L.A. Symphony, RedCloud, Culture Shock Camp, Rob Viktum, Braille, 2Live Crew, Josh Martinez, Sleep, Mr. Dibbs, and many more.
